Simulation of isolated word recognition on the basis of a hierarchy of phonetic classes

چکیده
We have investigated the benefits of an interaction between lexical knowledge and acoustic analysis in an isolated ~ord recognizer. By using lexical knowledg~, the need f<?r. detruled acoustic analysis can be reduced and h1gher recognltlon rates can be obtained. In our proposal the lexical knowledge we use is deterrnined by hierarchies of phonetic classes. These hierarchies have the form of binary decision trees and are used to guide the recognition process. A description of the proposed recognition process is given. By rneans of a simulation of this recognition process we are able to predict word recognition a?td ?onfus~on rates for the recognition system. Results of th1s s1mulat1on for different Dutch lexica are given.

متن کاملSpeech Segmentation Using Probabilistic Phonetic Feature Hierarchy and Support Vector Machines
We propose a method that combines acoustic-phonetic knowledge with support vector machines for segmentation of continuous speech into five classes vowel, sonorant consonant, fricative, stop and silence. We show that by using a probabilistic phonetic feature hierarchy, only four classifiers are required to recognize the five classes. Due to the probabilistic nature of the hierarchy, the method o...

This study was an attempt to investigate the effect of vowel-recognition training on beginner and advanced Iranian ESL learners. A total of 36 adult Iranian ESL learners (18 advanced and 18 beginners) who were students of various majors at Memorial University (MUN) were recruited for the study. Advanced participants had the experience of living in Canada for at least three years while beginners...
متن کاملOn the Role of Derivational Processes in the Formation of Non-Taxonomic Classes of Lexical Units in Russian
The paper is focused on classes of lexical units which arise as a result of derivational processes – word formation and semantic transfers, acting either in isolation or together, on the basis of common semantic foundations that bind targets and sources of derivation. The lexical items which constitute the classes under study vary in their denotative characteristics and due to their categ...
